Loverboy - Take Me To The Top (Live)
For better or worse, much of the 80s was an era of Arena Rock and I attended a number of such shows at the time. One such concert was the summer 1982 JFK Jam (6/19/82), an all-day affair held at the old JFK stadium in Philadelphia, featuring Huey Lewis & The News, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Loverboy, The Kinks, and Foreigner.
Naturally, most of the crowd had come to see the show's headliners, Foreigner, and were rather ambivalent about some of the other acts. I remember an article in the local paper previewing the concert - "Huey Lewis & The News is the opening act. Feel free to arrive late." <ouch> So when Loverboy took the stage around noon, most the audience were still sitting on their hands and were quite unprepared to be impressed by this relatively unknown Canadian band, only known for a couple of songs on MTV at the time.
The lead singer, Mike Reno, was quite the showman and whipped up the crowd, which had barely been paying attention to the show up 'til then. Loverboy only played 3 songs, but frankly out-did every other act on the bill, including the headliners.
"Take Me To The Top" was the song they opened with - this video is from a concert in Vancouver, BC in same year.
